Do people hate their career?

I know I sure did when I slaved away in social work. It was a very dangerous career. I was stuck dealing with a very difficult set of people on a daily basis. I also heard and saw such dangerous fights.

The worst was seeing clients succeed, only to fall back down again.

I hated going to my place of work. I hated even walking towards the building. I had to do something, but what? Can a 22 year old just give up on his job and split?

Well I did, and I can’t be more pleased with the outcome. I am leading my own life on my own terms. When i work hard, I profit, not corporate stiff.

Yes it was scary and I had doubts, but I will take fear and doubts over dread any day! It wasn’t easier to go and start my own business, but it was so much more fulfilling. Everyday I hop out of bed in a good mood. I am not sure I would give that up for any salary.

All colleges as well as graduate schools of education must do a improved job of preparing future teachers for a classroom, Arne Duncan, secretary of education, pronounced in a speech Thursday. Most leaders of teacher preparation programs pronounced they agreed with his comments, but it was tough to find any who said they thought his criticisms practical to their institutions. “By almost any standard, many if not many of the nation’s 1,450 schools, colleges as well as departments of preparation are doing a mediocre pursuit of preparing teachers for the realities of the 21st century classroom,” he told an assembly of faculty members, students as well as teachers at Teachers College of Columbia University. “America’s university-based teacher preparation programs need revolutionary change — not evolutionary tinkering.” Duncan’s debate bore down on a colleges as well as graduate schools which prepare more than half a teachers in U.S. primary and secondary schools — 60 percent of whom, by one count, entered the classroom feeling confused for the challenges that lay forward — and called upon those programs to introduce more in-the-classroom training as well as better tracking of clergyman performance and student outcomes. Arthur Levine, president of a Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation and former dean of Teachers College, said a speech “threw a lifeline to university-based teacher preparation programs” as some-more states as well as school districts have been turning to other kinds of clergyman certification programs to get bodies to a blackboard. Though a little might see a speech “only as a negative, with a secretary carping upon schools of education, I see it as an opportunity schools have been being given as well as should take value of,” Levine said. “It’s an unusual gift coming from Cabinet member Duncan.” Many of Duncan’s observations piggybacked off Levine’s 2006 controversial report, “Educating Propagandize Teachers” the source of the statistic that three of 5 teachers felt confused for their jobs, that accused schools of education of being “the Dodge City of the preparation world … unruly and disordered.” The controversy, to a little degree, seems to have cooled down as well as turned in to agreement that preparation schools need vast reforms, during least formed on a reactions of a few teacher preparation experts who listened to Duncan’s speech. Sharon Robinson, president as well as CEO of the American Association of Colleges for Clergyman Credentials AACTE, said she thought there was “a grade of critique in what he’s saying as well as a grade of reality in what he’s saying, as well — copiousness of these teacher preparation programs aren’t functioning as they need to be.” Robinson had panned Duncan’s Oct 9 debate at the University of Virginia, “A Call to Teaching,” calling it a rehashing of “shopworn criticisms of clergyman preparation programs” as well as asking him to do a more thorough examination of programs in allege of Thursday’s speech. Duncan upon Thursday applauded AACTE and its 800 part of institutions for perplexing to do a improved job preparing teachers, something he didn’t do in his Virginia speech. He said that group and the National Council for Accreditation of Clergyman Credentials NCATE “are firmly behind a new drive to link clergyman preparation programs to improved student outcomes.” Duncan didn’t only list Columbia and Harvard among a institutions doing a good job preparing teachers. He additionally mentioned Emporia State University in Kansas, Alverno College in Wisconsin as well as Black Hills State University in South Dakota. To Robertson, which signaled he was “more willing to look at good programs rsther than than just focusing on the bad.” Robinson shrugged off Duncan’s assertion that “for decades, schools of preparation have been renowned for being money cows for universities,” divisions which brought in money that was afterwards reinvested into other parts of universities. Kenyon S. Chan, chancellor of the University of Washington Bothell, said education programs during his institution “actually cost us a lot of money.” Brad Portin, director of Bothell’s education program, said Duncan’s speech didn’t exhibit any “new news for us” as well as echoed most of a tropes from Levine’s study. His institution and the other two campuses in the University of Washington system, he stressed “are already doing a lot of a good things discussed in the speech.” A programs he oversees put future teachers into the classroom early upon in their time as students and prepares them to work with children who have been socioeconomically, racially as well as developmentally diverse. Nonetheless, he said, “Duncan’s debate affirmed a ideas out there about preparing all the teachers to work with a really diverse student community” as well as bridged a “disconnect in between what has traditionally happened on university campuses to hope for teachers as well as the field portion of a experience.” Margaret A. Noe, dean of a College of Preparation during Southeast Missouri State University, said her institution was also you do a good pursuit of preparing teachers for a classroom but conceded that there have been plenty of teachers in schools across a country who were “ill-prepared for the classroom experience.” Patrick Riccards — CEO of Exemplar Strategic Consulting, that advises preparation groups, as well as author of a blog Eduflack — pronounced he suspicion schools of education needed to work on improving their self-awareness as Duncan and the Department of Credentials proceed their assign to reshape American clergyman education. “You’re not going to find a college of preparation that’s going to say ‘we’re part of the problem,’ ” he said. “People enter a field to try to help people and everyone wants to believe they’re partial of the solution. You’d be tough pressed to find a dean who will mount up and say ‘I’m not doing my job.’ ” But, he said, all institutions need to admit there’s room for improvement. “We’re listened now for some-more than a decade about this looming clergyman shortage as Baby Boomers retire – obviously the economy’s thrown which off a bit – but we still need to consider about training some-more teachers and training them better.” Robinson said a same.”We need to admit all that’s compulsory to meet a needs of the future,” she said, “and those programs that can’t do which need to close.”
